About Susan Branigan
A circular story...
As a young child I heard somewhere that if you could draw a perfect circle it meant you were a good artist… well I reckoned I was pretty good at circles, so I started drawing them non-stop, and measuring them with my brothers compass just to be sure…
Even now I still love to doodle with circles, I could draw them for hours. That’s really how my logo came about.
The circle seems to be a theme in my story. A sorry admin error cost me a place in art college in Dublin, so with nothing else in the planning, I took a job in sales. It had its advantages – broadened my horizons, I met fascinating people, learned to listen, it funded a marketing degree... And I loved people and helping, so it was a positive experience.
Outside of work, I took course after course in all sorts of artwork. Later, having children trained me to draw and invent stories on demand; so, when one of my daughters decreed that I should make her a whole book of her favourite story, plus pictures, I thought why not? Around the same time, an amazing chance to study illustration at Edinburgh College was one of the great gifts of my life, and I feel I’ve come full circle.

So here I am – an illustrator, who loves storytelling, with a background in sales and marketing, ready to turn your vision into the perfect visual.

My style is a mix of traditional and digital - as well as circles, I love black lines... but also pencil/charcoal, ink, ink and more ink, paint, lino and monoprint. Plus digital refinements, or making images from scratch on screen.

I work for publishers and editors - book illustrations, covers, layouts;
for business - visuals on websites, blogs and literature;
and for private individuals - who just want a nice picture to make them feel happy.
